Explorateur éperdu de la couleur et de la lumière, Nicolas de Staël (1914-1955) a été le premier à dépasser l’antinomie entre l’abstraction et la figuration, une démarche qui n’a pas vraiment été comprise de son vivant, en dehors de ses admirateurs de la première heure. Il a livré un combat épuisant pour un homme d’une sensibilité exacerbée mais au talent incontestable.
