Les fascinants détails de la peinture néerlandaise captivent depuis toujours le regard et nous donnent à voir les velours, satins, broderies, draps de lin et fines dentelles avec une exceptionnelle précision. Le vêtement affirme le statut social, le noir si fameux est la couleur la plus riche et la plus somptueuse en ce XVIIe siècle. Les préoccupations commerciales, économiques et même philosophiques propres aux Pays-Bas de cette époque trouvent une traduction dans la mode, l’usage des vêtements et de leurs accessoires.
